Review: Disrupt with Impact by Roger Spitz (Kogan Page)

Who wrote it: Roger Spitz, Chair of the Disruptive Futures Institute and Founder & CEO of Techistential. He’s ranked among the Top 15 Futurists Worldwide by Global Gurus and keynoted MIT Technology Review’s EmTech in 2025.

Who should read it: Business owners, team leads, anyone in a strategy role. If your industry is shifting under your feet (and whose isn’t?), this book was written for you.

What it’s about: A framework-driven guide to building businesses that can absorb disruption and keep moving. Spitz introduces two core tools: the Disruptive Thinking Canvas and the AAA framework (Antifragile, Anticipatory, Agility).

What works: The structure. Spitz breaks the book into short, modular sections you can read independently. The San Francisco Book Review gave it 4.5 stars and highlighted that it’s “written in bite-sized sections that are packed with information and feature plenty of real-world examples.” That’s accurate. Each section earns its space. You don’t have to wade through 40 pages of setup before finding something useful.

The tone works too. SFBR called it “conversational and approachable,” and that’s true without the book ever feeling lightweight. Spitz manages to be accessible while still delivering substance, which is harder than it looks.

What could be better: If you’re looking for deep case studies (the kind that run 20 pages on a single company), you won’t find them here. The trade-off for breadth and modularity is that individual examples stay compact. That’s a design choice, and it works for the book’s purpose, but readers who prefer long-form narrative business writing should know what they’re getting.

The verdict: The awards speak volumes: Foreword Indies Book of the Year, Chanticleer first place, Readers’ Favorite bronze. BookTrib called it “pure gold.” As someone who reads a lot of business books (and finishes maybe half of them), I found this one genuinely useful. The frameworks give you something to apply, the writing respects your time, and Spitz’s advice holds across industries. Recommended.
