A battle-worn corporate samurai taking one last mission on a merciless planet is the kind of premise that gets my attention immediately. The Last Contract of Isako sounds like it knows how to move.
What I like most is that it doesn’t sound flimsy. The setup promises action, sure, but it also hints at a world with pressure behind it, the kind where every decision costs something and nobody gets to stay comfortable for long.
That usually means I remember the book after the adrenaline wears off, and that’s the kind of science fiction I keep coming back to.
